Ch Zaheer Ud Din Khan son of Ch Muhammad Bashir was born on February 22, 1945 at Gurdaspur, India. He graduated in 1969 from University of the Punjab, Lahore. An agriculturist and a businessman, who served as Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab during 1988-90, 1993-96, 2002-07, 2008-13; functioned as Parliamentary Secretary for Forestry and Fisheries during 1993-96; as Minister for Communication and Works during 2003-07; as Leader of Opposition and as Chairman, Public Accounts Committee-I during 2008-11. He has returned to the Punjab Assembly for the fifth term in General Elections 2018 and has served as Minister for Public Prosecution. His grandfather, Ch Ali Akbar, served as Member of Punjab Legislative Council during 1921-23, 1924-26; as Member, Punjab Legislative Assembly during 1937-45 and 1946-47. His uncle, Ch Muhammad Munir, was a Member of Punjab Legislative Assembly during 1951-55. His brother, Mr Ali Akhtar is a sitting MPA from PP-99 and is functioning as Chairman, Committee on Privileges.
