The House offered Fateha on the sad demise of sister of Mr Akhlaq Bajwa, President, Press Gallery Committee, Punjab Assembly.

Mr Asad Abbas, MPA (PP-18) moved his notice regarding mixing of sewerage water in the potable water in his constituency, resulting in spread of contagious diseases. Mr Khalil Tahir, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs responded to the notice and it was disposed of.

Two Adjournment Motions were taken up. The Adjournment Motion from Syed Riffat Mehmood was kept pending due to absence of the mover. The second Motion was moved by Mr Asad Abbas, MPA (PP-18) raising the issue that in his constituency, no more space was available in the present graveyard due to which people were facing problems. He demanded the government to allocate space for another graveyard in the area. The motion was pended for reply by the concerned Minister.

Mr Khalil Tahir, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs laid the following reports:

The House granted leave to move two Resolutions after dispensing with the relevant rules

Syed Ali Haider Gilani, MPA (PP-213)

The day of March 06, 2024 is the most significant day in the judicial and political history of Pakistan, when the Supreme Court of Pakistan observed that the trial under the 1979 judgment that sent the founder of Pakistan People’s Party; first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan; framer of the Constitution; and Chairman of Organization of Islamic Conference, Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to the gallows did not meet the requirements of a “fair trial and due process”. The resolution added that reputed lawyers had already declared the said judgment as judicial murder. Moreover, that judgment was never used as precedent. The resolution further resolved that although judicial murder of Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had yielded irreversible loss to Pakistan politics and its consequences could be felt even today in social fabric of Pakistan, however, it was gratifying matter that it was finally admitted as ”injustice” being conspired by a military dictator to physically extinguish a popular and adorable leader. The House then paid tribute to Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on his magnificent achievements and recommended to declare him a national hero.

The Resolution was adopted.

Ms Uzma Kardar, MPA (W-322)

Paid tribute to women on International Women’s Day. The resolution added that the year was exceptional for Pakistan as people of Punjab had elected first ever female Chief Minister and that women were equal in all walks of life in Pakistan. She congratulated Ms Maryam Nawaz on being elected as Chief Minister of Punjab which had raised the heads of the women with proud not only in Punjab but also all over Pakistan. Consequently, women were feeling more confident and would proceed on the road to success in social, political and economic fields and would also contribute to the national development. This would materialize the saying of Quaid-e-Azam that Pakistan could never progress unless women were given equal opportunities.

The Resolution was adopted.

Mr Khalil Tahir, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, moved a Motion in terms of Rule 185, read with Rule 150 of the Rules of Procedure of Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, 1997, for election of the Finance Committee of the Assembly. The motion was adopted by the House and the Finance Committee stood elected.
