As a result of General Elections held on February 08, 2024, the 18th Provincial Assembly of the Punjab came into existence. Its first sitting was held on February 23, 2024 to administer oath to the members elect. Mr Muhammad Sibtain Khan, the outgoing Speaker, presided over the sitting in terms of Rule 6(2) of the Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, 1997.
Oath
The newly members-elect made oath as Member of the Punjab Assembly in terms of Article 65 read with Article 127 of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and rule 6 (1) of Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, 1997, and signed the Roll of Members in terms of rule 7 of the rules ibid. The outgoing Speaker administered oath to the members-elect.
Panel of Chairpersons
Under Rule 13(1) of Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, 1997, Ch Amer Habib, Secretary Assembly announced the Panel of Chairpersons nominated by the Speaker in the following order of precedence:
1. Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan (PP-179)
2. Ms Rahila Khadim Hussain (W-304)
3. Syed Ali Haider Gilani (PP-213)
4. Ms Saima Kanwal (PP-260)
Announcement of Procedure for Election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker
Ch Amer Habib, Secretary Assembly, announced the procedure for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker as envisaged in Rules 9 and 10 of the Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, 1997 to be held on February 24, 2024, in terms of Article 108 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Rule 9 (1) of the Rules ibid.
The House was then adjourned to meet on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 04:00 p.m. for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
