GOVERNMENT BUSINESS

OATH

Malik Muhammad Waheed from PP-156 made oath as Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab and Mr. Speaker administered the oath.

Fateha

The House offered Fateha on the sad demise of newly elected members Mr. Tariq Khan Drashek (PP-296) and Ghulam Abbas Khaki (PP-222).

ELECTION OF SPEAKER

Two candidates were contesting the election of Speaker. Mr. Parvez Elahi (PP-30) of PML was nominated candidate of PTI and allied parties, while Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal (PP-63) was nominated by PML-N as its candidate for Speaker.

Mr. Parvez Elahi secured 201 votes out of 349 and one vote was rejected, while Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal secured 147 votes. Mr. Speaker, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan announced Mr. Parvez Elahi (PP-30) as successful candidate and administered him oath. After taking oath as newly elected Speaker of Punjab Assembly, Mr. Parvez Elahi assumed the chair and conducted the Election of Deputy Speaker.

ELECTION OF DEPUTY SPEAKER

Two candidates were contesting the election of Deputy Speaker. Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari (PP-297) was nominated candidate of PTI and allied parties, while Mr. Waris Shad (PP-84) was nominated by PML-N as its candidate for Deputy Speaker.

Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari secured 187 votes out of 348 and two votes were rejected while Mr Waris Shad bagged 159 votes. Mr. Speaker announced Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari as successful candidate and administered him oath as Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly.

Newly elected Members congratulated Mr. Parvez Elahi and Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari on assuming the offices of Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.

The House was then adjourned at 10:02 p.m. to meet on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. for the election of Chief Minister.
