Provincial Assembly of the Punjab 1990

November 5, 1990 to June 28, 1993

After dissolution of previous Assembly in August 1990, general elections were held on October 27, 1990 for electing the new Assembly.

Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo was elected unopposed as Speaker for the third consecutive term and continued till April 25, 1993 when he became Chief Minister after the removal of Mr Ghulam Haider Wyne from the office of Chief Minister as a result of a no confidence motion. In the history of Punjab Assembly, it was the first no confidence motion passed against any Chief Minister.

The Assembly was elected for a tenure of five years but, on the advice of the Chief Minister, the Governor dissolved it on May 29, 1993. The Lahore High Court held the dissolution of the Assembly as illegal and restored the same on June 28, 1993. The Governor, on the advice of the Chief Minister, again dissolved the Assembly within minutes of its restoration by the Lahore High Court.

The Assembly held its first sitting on November 5, 1990 and its last session was held from May 3 to May 5, 1993. Thus, the Assembly remained on ground for a period of 2 years, 7 months and 24 days. It met for 117 sittings over 15 sessions and passed 29 Acts.
