Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmed son of Makhdoom Sultan Ahmed was born on October 2, 1950 at Rahim Yar Khan. He obtained the degree of B.Com. in 1973 from Karachi University. An agriculturist, who served as Member District Council, Rahim Yar Khan during 1991-93 and 2001-02. He worked for National Construction Company (Semi-Government) in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He also worked for British, Saudi and American construction companies, transport companies and oil companies in Saudi Arabia during 1976-88. He remained Member Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from December 1995 to November 1996; has returned to Punjab Assembly for the second term in General Elections 2002. He worked as Minister for Environment Protection from January 4, 2003 to November 30, 2006. He is functioning as Minister for Human Rights since December 1, 2006. His father served as Member Provincial Assembly of West Pakistan during 1965-69; his brother, Makhdoom Altaf Ahmed served as Member Provincial Assembly of the Punjab during 1985-88, 1988-90 and 199395; his brother-in-law Makhdoom Shahab-ud-Din was Member National Assembly during 1990-93 and 1993-96; and his uncle, Makhdoom Hameed-ud-Din served as Member Provincial Assembly, Member National Assembly and as Senator during 1956-84.
