Dr Samia Amjad wife of Dr Muhammad Amjad was born in Jessore, East Pakistan. She obtained the degree of MBBS in 1983 from Nishter Medical College Multan; and was the best graduate. In 1994, she post-graduated in Family Medicine (MCPS) from College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan. She is a practicing physician and is the President of Pakistan Society of Family Physicians since 1996. She remained a Member of District Council, Khanewal and a Member of Police Safety Commission during 2000-02. She was elected as Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in 2002 and functioned as Chairperson, Standing Committee on Population Welfare, and was also a Member of Wildlife and House Committees. On invitation of the State Department of the US Government, she visited USA as an International Observer for the US Presidential Election of 2004. She is a Member of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians, UK for the last three years and has attended its Conferences in Maldives and SAARC countries. She has returned to the Punjab Assembly for her second consecutive term in 2008. She is the author of “On the Other Side”, her political auto-biography which contains her experience of metamorphosing of a doctor into a parliamentarian
