Dr Musarrat Hasan wife of Mian Ijaz-ul-Hassan was born in Lahore. She obtained the degree of MA (Fine Arts) in 1961; Ph.D. (Fine Arts) in 1997 from University of the Punjab, Lahore, diploma in Children’s Literature from USA, and certificates in Design and Portrait Painting from UK and USA. An eminent scholar, a well known painter and a renowned educationist, she is a Professor of Fine Arts and is supervising the students enrolled in the Ph.D. programme of the Punjab University and Lahore College University of Women, the programme designed and initiated with her assistance. She has authored five books on art, one of which was declared the best book on Punjab in 1998. Three of her books promote the drive to form a data base for art and heritage of Pakistan so that there is a visual record of some of the very great paintings produced here. She has been an active voluntary member of the Pakistan Girl Guides Association for more than three decades and has been the Chairperson of All Pakistan Girl Guides Literacy Effort. She has represented Pakistan at several International Conferences. She is the founder member of the Womens Action Forum and remained the Vice President of Friends of the Lahore Museum during 2000. She has also been a member of the Advisory Committee of the Alliance Franchise Lahore since 2004; a Member of Executive Committee Punjab Crafts Council, Member Advisory Committee Artists Association of the Punjab and Member governing body of the Community Support Concern, Lahore, since 2000. She has been awarded the Presidential Award of “Ezaz e Fazeelat” for Academic Distinction for the year 2008.
