Personal Career & Interests

Ms Asifa Farooqi daughter of Sh Muhammad Yaseen Farooqi completed her early education from Jhang and obtained the degree of MA (English literature) from University of the Punjab, Lahore. She remained Member of Senate during 1974-77 and was the only female representative in the upper House of Parliament. She served as Member, Advisory Panel on Foreign Affairs of Pakistan during the premiership of late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. She has also represented Pakistan at UNO and has the honour to meet several heads of states of the world. She also represented Pakistan at the conference of women leaders of the world held under the patronage of UNDP at South Korea and also read a paper there on the subject “The Betterment of the Women Class”. The preparation of the paper on “Kachi Abadis of Pakistan” is also to her credit. She visited USA, Holland and Austria accompanying Prime Minister and was also a member of the parliamentary delegations that visited Japan and China. She has been elected as Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in general elections 2008 against one of the seats reserved for women. She is a good short story-writer and also writes in newspapers and magazines. Her elder brother, Sheikh Muhammad Nafis-ud-Din Farooqi, Advocate served as Member, Punjab Assembly during 1977.
